William Morris Strawberry Thief | Printed Velvet Fabric | Luxury Soft Furnishings
£11.50 – £19.38Price range: £11.50 through £19.38 Metre
Bring the timeless elegance of the Arts & Crafts movement into your home with this luxurious William Morris Strawberry Thief Velvet. Unlike standard cotton prints, this fabric reimagines the famous 1883 design on a soft, Printed Velvet base, adding depth, warmth, and a stunning tactile finish to the intricate pattern of thrushes stealing strawberries.
This fabric features a lightweight velvet construction with a beautiful, fluid drape and a slight stretch, making it incredibly versatile. It catches the light to reveal the richness of the colours—from deep Burgundy and Forest Green to classic Navy.
Why Choose This Velvet Edition?
-
Luxurious Texture: The velvet pile gives the classic print a richness that flat cotton cannot match, making it perfect for creating a cozy, opulent atmosphere.
-
Iconic Design: “Strawberry Thief” is one of William Morris’s most beloved designs, instantly adding heritage charm and Grand millennial style to any room.
-
Versatile Drape: Being lightweight with a soft handle, it hangs beautifully as curtains but is sturdy enough for light upholstery projects like dining pads or ottomans.
-
Rich Colour Palette: Available in 5 heritage shades including Black, Burgundy, Forest, Natural, and Navy to suit any interior scheme.

Expert Sewing Tips for Velvet
-
Nap Direction: Velvet has a “nap” (it feels smooth one way and rough the other). Always cut your pattern pieces with the nap running down the item (smooth when you stroke downwards) so the colour looks deep and consistent.
-
Pressing: Never iron velvet directly on the face! It will crush the pile. Use a steam setting from the back, or place a towel underneath the fabric face-down when pressing seams.
-
Needle: Use a Universal 80/12 or Microtex needle to penetrate the dense weave without snagging.
