Expert Sewing Tips for Crushed Velvet

1. Mind the Nap: Like all velvets, crushed velvet has a directional pile (nap). It will look lighter from one direction and darker from another. Ensure you cut all your pattern pieces facing the same way!

2. Pin Generously: The synthetic pile can be slightly slippery when sewing two right sides together. Use plenty of sewing clips or fine silk pins to keep your seams perfectly aligned.

3. No Direct Ironing: Never press an iron directly onto the face of crushed velvet, as it will flatten the beautiful texture. Steam it from the back, or use a velvet needle board if pressing seams open.
